Winter Park Ski Train Final Season February 28, 2009

On February 28, 2009 the westbound Ski Train to the Winter Park Ski Resort left Denver Union Station on time at 7:15AM, and crossed the 80th Avenue crossing in Arvada, CO before ascending into the Rocky Mountains. Three former Amtrak F40PH diesels, numbered 242, 283, and 289, pulled former Canadian National Tempo cars, purchased for the Ski Train in 1988. Three private cars which typically ran on the end of the train were the Utah, dome car California, and observation car Kansas. After passing the target signal at Leyden siding in Arvada, the train crossed Gross Reservoir Dam Road at Crescent siding, high in the tunnel district. This would be one of the last videos taken of the Winter Park Ski Train, which was sold to the Algoma Central Railroad in Canada at the end of the 2009 ski season. Note the snow capped Continental Divide in the background of the final shot.
